The HP StorageWorks 1510i Modular Smart Array provides a flexible low cost, high capacity storage solution in a 2U controller unit with an iSCSI interface. This unit can connect to both SCSI disk and HP StorageWorks Serial ATA (SATA) enclosures, with support for Wide Ultra3 SCSI devices. Support for RAID ADG (Advanced Data Guarding), RAID 5 (Distributed Data Guarding), RAID 1+0 (Mirroring + Stripping), and RAID 0 (Stripping) is standard.

Some other features of the The HP StorageWorks 1510i Modular Smart Array include 32 MB SDRAM, up to 512 MB Read/Write removable cache memory, and a 4 MB flashable ROM for firmware upgrades. Maximum storage capacity is 16.8 TB (56 drives) for SCSI, and 24 TB (96 drives) for SATA, with protocol mixing allowed. This device will support Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (32-bit), and Microsoft Windows 2000 (SP4, 32-bit).
