Cisco Overview

Founded by Len Bosack and Sandy Lerner in 1984 and headquartered in San Jose, California, Cisco is the international leader in networking that changes how people connect, communicate with each other and do business. Cisco's IP-based networking solutions are the basis of these networks.

Since the company began, Cisco has been the leader in the areas of routing and switching, in addition to other technologies such as IP communications, network security, wireless LAN and SAN, just to name a few. However, in the beginning, Cisco manufactured only enterprise multi-protocol routers, but eventually began offering products for the home user market with VoIP, while still offering products and services to its corporate customer base.

Cisco is the leader in several technological areas, such as routing and switching, communications, wireless and security. The company helped pave the way for the industry's move to IP. Now that IP is a fundamental part of today’s networking environment, Cisco is at the heart of the changes in the way the world communicates.
